When fitting patients for hearing aids, real-ear measurements\nprovide a level of accuracy unavailable with software programs. Real-ear\nverification takes into account an individual\u2019s unique anatomy, such as ear\ncanal volume, providing a true measurement of a hearing aid\u2019s effectiveness for\nthat patient\u2019s specific hearing loss. Without an accurate assessment of a\nhearing aid\u2019s amplification levels, a patient can walk away with a hearing aid\nthat delivers substandard performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yet, studies show that only approximately 40 percent of\naudiologists use real-ear verification technology. Why the reluctance to\nembrace a system that has been proven to provide the most accurate measurements\navailable? For many audiologists, the answer amounts to time and money. The\nprocess can be time-consuming, especially for audiologists unfamiliar with the\nequipment, which can be expensive.
